How long to the pubs or restaurants by walking?

It will take approximately 15 minutes to walk to the Marina and some of the best pubs and restaurants in Dingle. The journey takes you along Dingle’s glorious waterfront. We also provide complimentary bikes, helmets and high-vis jackets for those wishing to cycle to town.

Is there a footpath and street lighting?

There is a footpath and street-lights for the entire walk from Milltown House to the Dingle Marina and/or Main street, except for a 100 yard stretch across the ancient Milltown Bridge. Guests should pay attention here, but local motorists are always very courteous and drive with attention to pedestrians.

What’s the Hollywood Connection?

Did Robert Mithum really live in Milltown House?
Yes, Room 2 is the Robert Mitchum Suite with a glorious sea view.

The huge Hollywood star did live in Milltown House in the year 1969 while filming David Lean’s double Oscar-winning ‘Ryans Daughter.’ As a result our gorgeous residence has gained legendary status in Dingle folklore. Milltown House is steeped in nostalgia. We have a display of memorabilia and old photographs from this romantic era in the history of our house.

While you’re enjoying Dingle’s great restaurants and pubs, tell any friendly local that you are a guest at Milltown House and an abundance of Robert Mitchum stories will pour forth.

For further information on the Robert Mitchum connection, check out this article.

Note: the Management of Milltown House would like to assure guests that all traces of the Marijuana plants allegedly grown by Robert Mitchum and his Hollywood cohorts have long since vanished. This has been verified by our professional gardeners.

Gaeilge Failte?/Is Irish spoken?

Ta an teanga tabhatach…

The Irish language is spoken and can be heard in Milltown House on a daily basis. Our levels of fluency range from ‘leaving-cert Irish’ (high-school standard) to fully-fluent and electrifying West Kerry Irish. 80% of our staff are fully fluent, a huge source of pride for us. ALL staff are expected to use even a few words of Irish/cupla focal Gaeilge each day. Nothing is more important that our heritage. One of the main reasons Dingle is so popular.

Milltown House is wholly owned by ‘Wade McPhilemy Teoranta t/a Milltown House.’ Our Directors and co-owners are:

Irishman Stephen McPhilemy, one of Ireland’s leading professional tour guides for 20 years, and our full-time day-to-day General Manager.

Irish-American Patrick Wade, who is a leading figure in equine-pharmaceuticals. Patrick tries to spend 1 week per month in Milltown House and spends the other 3 weeks day-dreaming of blissfully retiring here.

Patrick and Stephen are assisted by a hand-picked ‘dream-team’ of competent and award-winning Managers and Staff who are all skilled in the fine-art that is Irish Hospitality.

7 days notice is required in advance of arrival on all cancellations. If a booking is cancelled within 7 days, then Milltown House reserves the right to charge the first night of the stay.

If a booking is cancelled before the 7 day period, Milltown House will charge a 10% administration fee (30% of the entire reservation amount).
